The Grupo Español del Carbón (GEC) organizes a biennial congress called "Meeting of the Spanish Coal Group" during which the various research groups working in this area of ​​knowledge are invited to present their most recent work and results. Special emphasis is placed on the meeting for younger researchers to present their work publicly. During the meeting, the three finalists of the prize for young researchers are presented, which on the occasion of these meetings the GEC summons. On the other hand, the presence of industry research groups facilitates the exchange of academy / industry ideas. In recent years, participation in these research group meetings in Portugal and Latin American countries has also been common. The official language of these meetings is Spanish, however, on an exceptional basis, the presentation of the work in English is also allowed, prior approval by the organizing committee.
